Conservation

In the context of conservation and environmental education, Kitabanga has several programs that have been implementing them, as well as prospecting new programs. The Kitabanga Project, since its implementation, has prioritized and invested in in situ conservation, since this is generally the best form of conservation. However, in recent times, in the face of growing threats, the project has adopted some mitigation measures to reverse the situation. The following programs are worth highlighting:

  • Program for monitoring and protecting turtles and their postures in all Bases of the Kirabanga Project; permanent
  • Program for transferring risky postures to maternity hospitals in certain Kitabanga bases; anual
  • "Nest Adoption" program, in which any natural or legal person can do so, as a contribution to the conservation efforts of sea turtles; new

Environmental Education

Knowing that education is the first step towards sustainable development and for a better future, the Kitabanga Project also has programs that it has been implementing and envisioning, including:

  • Program of lectures and activities to raise awareness about sea turtles and their conservation in the different coastal communities off the coast of Angola. ongoing
  • Program for preparing and distributing educational materials such as books, booklets, posters, leaflets and kits for the protection of sea turtles; continuous
  • Program for the placement and renewal of informative signs, in order to avoid the killing of turtles and destruction of nests, on the different beaches where the project operates; anual
  • Monthly programs on different radios, with debate and reports on topics related to sea turtles and the need for their conservation; new
  • Program for placing informative billboards on national road 100; in preparation
  • Volunteer program. in preparation
